Vote of Thanks

Thank you for your support and interest in CricketDeewane blog. I am overwhelmed by the response to the blog and weight of expectations that comes along with. However, I needed more support to reach all of you, to keep this thing going and have started looking out for helping hands. Early in this week I wrote to few people to volunteer for CricketDeewane! Finally got a success when after a bit of persuasion Amit Manohar agreed to help. Next one in line was Ninad Vaidya who politely declined the offer for ‘Deewana of the Week’ but agreed to provide help with whatever he can do. Though there is fair response for the contest ‘What a Shot’ ! Thanks to Ashish Aggarwal to send an ‘eye catching’ cricket moment. I will be soon posting it on the blog so that the whole Bloomington would witness it.

Guys, thanks once more for your contribution and it gives me that energy to keep on blogging & presenting new ideas, thoughts to all of you.

BPL - Some Thoughts

On the same lines of IPL, CICA has come up with an idea of BPL - Bloomington Cricket League. Before any further speculation and critic I want to congratulate CICA for this INNOVATION. Whether idea will succeed or Fail is topic of debate although everyone seems to admiring the initiative being taken here. I wonder if anyone has even thought of having this format for a tournament anywhere else in US. So first of all Well Done CICA !!!

Thoughts I am putting here are either my own or being written or based upon public responses heard around yesterday and today. Well let me tell you that the result is 50-50 i.e half the community is thinking that it would be a flop while others are living up to the challenge and ready to participate.

Biggest worry of all though is what about the people who are new in town or not being watched earlier followed by those who recently have not performed or never performed. Then there comes a batch of people who looks at this game more as a fun and for them winning-losing hardly maters. Who is going to bid for them or who is going to Choose them? To me answer to all these questions really depends on number of entries CICA will receive. If they receive sufficient entries then they will force Teams make a choice among available options and if the number of entries go up then it would be a challenge to organizers to accommodate everyone. I do not think CICA would say 'NO' to any player. Another question people are asking is what if number of entries are not even or such that players could not be evenly distributed among all teams ? Not really sure about this but MY OWN thought is in that case CICA can reduce or increase number of players per team. Since this is indoor any number from 9 to 12 could be decided to best accommodate available entries.

In spite of these Ifs and Buts basic idea of this format is very exciting and appealing. Thinking about it one can get an idea that this could be a opportunity to play with other team players which otherwise won't happen. Unlike in the past teams won't be a company or a region specific and different cricketing brains will get a chance to interact with each other. But someone can say that I don't give it a XXXX :)  Well then here is another thing, established teams like KlassicXI, Bloomboys, Titans, Zunjaar (Sarkaar), Veterans, ACC etc will be at a GREAT loss since there is hardly any chance for their players to play together. On the other hand level 2 & 3 teams might get a chance to play with their own. I believe this would give some solace to most of us :) Well this format will make sure that all the teams are equally strong and thus tournament will be more competitive. It will also ensure that players having a proven track record and those without one both will need to perform. Some players will build reputation and get good recognition if they perform. There could be also few Dark horses who can have more people witness their performance which would go unnoticed otherwise. With all this said it also becomes very important for Captains to provide an equal opportunity to his team mates. Captaincy will hold key since there has to be lot of thought put into deciding batting & bowling order.

New formation of the teams would be a great treat to eye for spectators and supporters. Not sure what will be the Team names but I am sure everyone will be more than excited to pick his favorite team. :)

Indoor Finals: Klasic XI Vs. Bloomboys

More than 6 weeks of Indoor tourney, Over 100's of people on the ground to witness the game and stage was all set for the BIG DADDY of all...yes it was "The Finals" of CICA Indoor Tournament 2011.

On one side It was Bloomboys who upset Zunjaar in Quarters and then beat ACC in Semis, on the other hand it was Klasic who was unbeaten in this tourney. Both teams were all charged up for the final encounter.
Klasic who won the toss was not hesitant to bat first and they started with their known openers Aditya and Naveed..Both started the innings carefully and were rotating the strike. It was Vinu Raghavan who broke the partnership in third over and got Naveed caught behind the stumps. Bloomboys were all charged up but it didn't last longer. It was Irfan..Klasic's In-form batsman who did the damage again. Irfan and Aditya (Aadi) hit some glorious cuts and drives all over the ground and kept the momentum going. Watching them bat was just so much of fun. They took the scoreboard to 23 after 5 overs.

Match Report - BloomBoys Vs Zunjaar and More Updates

Straight Drive - Vamsee Gooty
What a match it was...!!!
B/W Bloomboys and Zunjaar or achanak or sarkaar...what ever you call it...!!

Cricket Deewane of Bloomington would definitely love to see the output of this match....and as wished by many of you, if not expected....the bloomboys had a convincing win over Zunjaar....!!!

After output of bloomboys vs zunjaar(then sarkaar or achanak) in the last indoor tourney...The pressure was definitely on Zunjaar....!!...the opening spell by Vinu and Naveen left them spell bound....other bowlers too continued the air till the end of the innings....the last over by sharath got them only one run....46 in 13 overs...was may be the lowest scores in this level of game...!!!...Amit tried hard to gives us good target....but his teammates did not support with bat....!!

hemant was ran-out...missed couple of catches...miss fields here and there by others....Zunjaar was under pressure...!!!!

Bloomboys batting....wow...the openers started off well...though sharath was spectacularly caught by Vinod....Deeraj along with Kranthi had partnership of more 50% of target required.....maintaining the required run rate they did increase the pressure on opponents...and it was shown in their fielding....!!!
kudos to deeraj our wall...and Kranthi one of the best all rounder of our team....!!!...Punit and sagar had good spells trying to get back into the game...!!
but then the magical SIX by Vnnu, the captain of Bloomboys....changed the course of the game....and made the WIN more convincing...!!!...Kudos to Amit too...tried to carry Zujaar on his shoulder with bat, ball and keeping wickets.....but bloomboys as a team overpowered all his effort....!!!

Semifinal Match #1: Klassic-XI Vs Titans Reloaded
Klassic has won this match and into the Finals now
- Based on update from Vishal Sadaphal

---- From Reporter Anup Tapkir
1st SemiFinal: Klassic XI Vs Titans Reloaded
Klassic scored some odd 54 Runs. Naveed and Sumit Saluja played well with rest of the batsmen chipping in at right time. Anurag Agrwal took an awesome catch which was one of the highlights of the game. Titan Reloaded started the chase but kept on loosing wickets. Anurag played good knocks but not enough to stop Klassic XI.
Quarter Final #2: Veterans Vs ACC
ACC won this match Comfortably by 9 Runs.

Cricket Indoor QuarterFinals.

HEAT is ON in Late winter in Bloomington with quarterfinals near in sight. Yesterday it could be felt during tense match between Titans Reloaded and Jalsa. Titans RLD scored @40 odd runs but did their best with bowling to defend the same. Standing ovation to Samir's Brilliant catch. Jalsa who was impressive and has a potential to beat any big team on given day, had been a lot cautious in their approach which made small total look bigger n bigger with each wicket falling and every ball being stopped by fielders around. Eventually Magnificent Titans secured the victory and a place in Semis.

Coming Friday, it is time for Brave BloomBoys Gang to take on Zealous Zunjaar. Both these teams clashed in first round matches where Zunjaar came out victorious. However, Quarters and later stages had always been a different ball game. Both the Teams would rely a lot on their pace attack with Zunjaar keeping its faith in youngsters & experienced bowlers while Bloomboys has experience and variety on their side. Lets hope it would be as interesting as all of us have witnessed on Sunday Evening.

This game will be followed up by one between Veterans and ACC both winning equal no of matches during initial stages. Veterans - who had won this tournament before is composed team who would do their homework thoroughly before entering the stadium. ACC on the other hand, has a very strong Batting line up that can crush their opponent's bowling.

Thus is lot to come during the start of this weekend. So Stay tuned Deewano...

Let the Game of Cricket Rockkk...............................

Indoor Cricket Updates - Todays Results and Quick Match Analysis by Sachin Panaskar

Colonial Stadium of Bloomington - Photo Courtsey Nainesh Ganu

1st Match Klassic Vs Brahmos: Klassic won convincingly over Brahmos. They ran well betn wickets and kept scoreboard moving. Bowler backed them up by bowling good line and lengths. Their effort in the fielding was not too behind either with some good catches at 2-run mark and couple of direct hits to earn as many runouts. They sounds all set for semi final bach against Titans Rldd, who earned a victory that was tougher than the 'won by 18 runs' result that scoreboard shows.
2nd Match Titan Reloaded Vs Jalsa: Playing with only 9 in the absence of their premier players, they managed to scored only 47 w/o even playing all 13 overs. But they came back really well after their opponents, to some extent, failed to consolidate on the good start they got. But tight bowling, 2 run outs and one awesome catch was what changed the fate of the match upside down and the opponents putting down their weapons by scoring a meager 29 before getting all out.
3rd Match BloomBoys Vs Chargers: Bloomboys won this game claiming the last position in the pool. They will facing Zunjaar in Semifinals.

----- Report from Sachin Panaskar

Sachin special thanks from Cricket Deewane Blog for taking time for the email.

Upcoming Indoor Cricket Matches

Cricket indoor has picked up really well within last few years. 2009 was the first time ever when it was introduced and got a great response. In last 2-3 years it has prospered like anything and every year Organizers had to cut down on number of team entries.

Indoor has always been a  different kind of game and it needs special skills for a person to make a mark on the tournament ..be a batsman or a bowler everyone would agree that it is totally a different ball game. Veterans won the first ever indoor played during winter of 2009 followed by Knights claiming the 2nd. During 2010 winter it was Junoon and then Yoddhas clinching the victory in the finals and now here we are awaiting for 2011 indoor champion.

With Quarterfinals in sight speculations have already started on Lunch tables and Break areas. So has begun marking individual players for summer cricket :). With cricket clouds in Bloomington skies we need your help to figure out which 4 teams would make it to Semifianls and eventually which one of them would claim the 1st indoor of 2011. Please select the apprpriate radio button from the POLL below
